In a recent blog, developer Dambuster Studios stated that, due to Dead Island 2's graphic requirements, "the host must play on the latest generation console (PlayStation 5/Xbox Series X S) or one of the Generation 8+ consoles (PlayStation 4 Pro/Xbox One X)". Instead, they will have to rely on players with more recent consoles (from the same console family) to be the host. Achievements unlocked on the way will be awarded to all players in the party.ĭead Island 2 launches April 21, 2023, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One X/S, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.Those on base Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles will not be able to host a co-op session on Dead Island 2's release. The player with more progress will instead have to join the other player’s session and help them progress, till they reach parity. Players on earlier missions will not be able to join a player that has progressed further. The game supports co-op up to 3 players with progress and achievements being shared. They have also iterated that making co-op hosting available on last-gen is a focus and could be a reality in the future. The developers have quoted “graphical limitations” as the reason for the restrictions.
